Yawaragi no Michi

Yawaragi no Michi originated with the establishment of the Nanatani Outdoor Activity Center, when 500 cherry trees were initially planted near the center. This planting gradually expanded in scale to reach the current 1,500 trees that define the landscape today. The promenade stretches along the Nanatani River in Kameoka City, located in Kyoto Prefecture's Tamba region, approximately 20 minutes from Kyoto Station by train.

The 1,500 cherry trees line both banks of the river, extending for approximately 1 kilometer. The site features 30 different types of cherry blossoms, though the predominant variety is Someiyoshino, the most iconic cherry blossom species in Japan. The adjacent Sakura Park contains an additional 280 trees representing 28 varieties. Peak bloom typically occurs from late March to early April, transforming the path into a spectacular pink tunnel that has made this one of the premier cherry blossom destinations in the Kansai region.

The primary attraction is walking beneath the cherry blossom canopy along the riverside path. During peak season, the site features nighttime illuminations for a limited period, typically from 19:00 to 22:00, creating an ethereal atmosphere distinct from daytime viewing. An annual Cherry Blossom Festival takes place in early April, featuring stage performances and food stalls. The Nanatani River Outdoor Activity Center, located just minutes from the path, offers a campground and grassy park area popular with families. Izumo Daijingu Shrine, one of the oldest shrines in the Tamba region dedicated to matchmaking and relationships, sits 25 minutes on foot from Yawaragi no Michi.

Kameoka can be reached in approximately 20 minutes from Kyoto Station via the JR Sagano Line. From JR Kameoka Station, take the Kameoka City Furusato Bus for approximately 15 minutes and alight at the Nanatanigawa bus stop. By car, the site is approximately 10 minutes from Chiyogawa IC on the Kyoto Jukan Expressway, with paid parking available on-site. Many visitors combine their trip with a ride on the scenic Sagano Romantic Train from Arashiyama, which passes through cherry blossom-lined gorges. Access to the riverside path and park is free of charge.
