Wood Carving Experience in a 200 Year Old House

Workshop Agenda

Welcome and Introduction

Upon arrival at the 200-year-old traditional Japanese house, you’ll be warmly greeted by your host. Enjoy a brief tour of the beautifully preserved home, registered as a Tangible Cultural Property, and learn about its unique history and cultural value.

Getting Ready in the Tatami Room

Settle into the calm and quiet of the tatami room where your carving experience will take place. The instructor will introduce the tools, safety measures, and the carving process. You’ll also choose your preferred Jizo size if not already arranged.

• Duration: 15 minutes

Wood Carving Session

Begin carving your own Jizo statue using a pre-shaped wooden piece. The instructor, with over 20 years of experience, will guide you step by step on how to carve safely and effectively. This part of the experience is designed for all skill levels, including first-timers.

• Duration: 1 hour

Finishing Touches and Reflection

Once your carving is complete, take a few moments to admire your work and reflect on the process. The instructor will offer advice on how to care for your piece at home. You can take photos and ask any final questions.
