No. 2 Arishima Ostrich Farm

No. 2 Arishima Ostrich Farm sits at the foot of Mount Yotei in the Toyosato area of Niseko, Hokkaido. This working ranch raises ostriches and cattle in open pastures amid the expansive northern landscapes characteristic of the region. The farm has been designated as part of the Furusato View Point under Niseko's Landscape Ordinance, recognized by locals as one of the best scenic spots in the area due to the dramatic backdrop of Mount Yotei and Mount Annupuri framing the grazing animals.

The farm operates as both a tourist attraction and agricultural enterprise, managing the entire production cycle from breeding to retail. The ostriches here are raised through natural mating and free-range practices without antibiotics, resulting in eggs with one of the highest fertilization rates in Japan. Over 60 ostriches roam freely across the ranch during the grazing season, which runs from late April through early November. Outside this period, the birds are housed indoors and not visible to visitors.

The farm's primary attraction is the opportunity to interact closely with these impressive birds, which can reach running speeds of 70 kilometers per hour. Visitors can observe ostriches roaming freely across the fields and feed them by hand using corn purchased at the farm for ¥100. The experience allows guests to learn about ostrich behavior and farming practices through guided tours that walk through the facility. Beyond ostriches, the farm also houses other animals including goats, sheep, and rabbits, making it particularly appealing for families with children.

Admission is free, though feed and café items require separate purchase. Free parking is available on site. Visitors traveling by car from JR Niseko Station will find the farm approximately 10 minutes away, though the location can be easy to miss when driving. For those without vehicles, taxis are available from nearby stations, with the journey from JR Hatori Station taking approximately 5 minutes.
