Nunobiki Falls is within walking distance from Shin-Kobe Shinkansen Station, offering immediate access to a natural environment right from the station, which was remarkable. The hike to the main waterfall, Odaki, took about 15 minutes. On the day of my visit, following rain, the steep stairs and mountain paths were slippery, so sturdy, easy-to-walk-in shoes are recommended. Extending the walk another 10 minutes leads to an observation point with panoramic views of Kobe city and the port. Nunobiki Falls is counted among Japan’s three great waterfalls and appears in historical texts such as the Heian-period “Ise Monogatari,” reflecting its long-standing role as a site for spiritual practice and scenic enjoyment. During my weekday evening visit, roughly 90% of visitors were international tourists. The excellent accessibility combined with the historical and natural significance makes it a highly satisfying destination.
新幹線の新神戸駅から徒歩圏内でアクセスでき、駅前からすぐに本格的な自然に触れられることが驚きでした。 新神戸駅から雄滝までは徒歩１５分ほどのハイキングでしたが、訪問時は雨上がりということもあり、急な階段や山道は滑りやすくなっていたので、しっかりとした歩きやすい靴で来ることをおすすめします。さらに１０分ほど足を伸ばせば、見晴らし展望だから神戸市街や港の景色も一望できます。滝だけ鑑賞するのであれば駅からの 布引の滝は日本三大神滝の一つに数えられ、平安時代に書かれた『伊勢物語』を始め数々の歴史書や物語に登場し、古くから修行や景勝地としても由緒のある滝だそうです。平日夕方の訪問でしたが、訪れた際は９割くらいが外国人観光客の方でした。 優れたアクセスで歴史ある自然景勝地を堪能できたので、非常に満足感の高い場所でした。
