Mishima Skywalk

The Mishima Skywalk is Japan's longest pedestrian suspension bridge, stretching 400 meters across the Kannami Valley in Shizuoka Prefecture. Opened in December 2015, the bridge was constructed as a private venture to promote tourism in the region and provide visitors with unprecedented views of Mount Fuji and Suruga Bay. The structure stands approximately 70 meters above the forested valley floor, supported by two massive towers that anchor the suspension cables.

The bridge's primary appeal lies in its panoramic vistas of Mount Fuji, particularly stunning on clear days when the iconic peak dominates the northern skyline. The location also offers views across Suruga Bay to the Izu Peninsula, creating a natural amphitheater of scenic beauty. The transparent grating sections installed along portions of the walkway allow visitors to look directly down into the valley below, adding an element of vertigo-inducing excitement to the crossing. The surrounding area features gardens showcasing seasonal flowers and native plants typical of the Izu region.

Visitors can walk the entire length of the bridge at their own pace, with the crossing typically taking 15 to 20 minutes depending on photo stops and crowd levels. The bridge facility includes observation decks at both ends, a commercial complex with restaurants serving local Shizuoka cuisine, and shops selling regional products including wasabi items and green tea. Activities such as ziplining and rock climbing are available for adventure seekers at additional cost.

The Mishima Skywalk is located approximately 5 kilometers south of Mishima Station on the JR Tokaido Shinkansen and JR Tokaido Main Line. Visitors can reach the bridge by taking a local bus from Mishima Station, with the journey taking roughly 25 minutes. Alternatively, the site is accessible by car via the Tomei Expressway, with free parking available for several hundred vehicles. Admission fees are ¥1,100 for adults and ¥200 for elementary school students, with discounts available for group bookings and combined tickets that include activity experiences.
