Tatago Rock (竜王岩, also written as Tatago Iwa) is a massive limestone formation rising directly from the sea along Shirasaki Coast in Yura Town, Hidaka District, Wakayama Prefecture. Its most distinctive feature is a perfectly round natural hole bored through its center by centuries of wave erosion, making it one of the most photographed coastal landmarks in the Kansai region. It stands alongside Oobae Rock as one of the two symbolic formations of Shirasaki Coast, and is best viewed from the Shirasaki Manyo Park observation deck or from the water on the Shirasaki Cruise.

The limestone formations at Shirasaki Coast, including Tatago Rock itself, date back over 250 million years to the Permian Period of the late Paleozoic Era. The area forms part of the Shirasaki Kaigan Prefectural Natural Park and the stark contrast between the pure white limestone cliffs and the deep blue Pacific has earned it the nickname "the Aegean Sea of Japan." The coastline's beauty was recorded in Japan's oldest poetry anthology, the Manyoshu, compiled in the late 8th century, and the site has since been selected as one of Japan's 100 Best Beaches, one of the 100 Best Sunsets in Japan, and one of the 100 Best Landscapes by the Yomiuri Shimbun in 2009.

Visitors can view Tatago Rock from the coastal walking trails and observation decks within Shirasaki Marine Park, registered as an official roadside station in August 2009. The park also provides access to the Totsui Limestone Cave, formed over 250 million years ago, and to Mt. Bansho, known for its native daffodils. Between March and July, the coast serves as a breeding ground for streaked shearwaters (petrels), which gather in large flocks offshore. For a closer view of Tatago Rock, the Shirasaki Cruise departs from the park on authentic fishing vessels captained by local fishermen, with commentary available in English and Chinese on select boats.

Viewing Tatago Rock from the coast and park is free of charge, with free parking available on-site. The nearest train station is JR Kii-Yura Station on the JR Kisei Main Line, from which the coast is a 15-minute drive or reachable by local bus, alighting at Shirasaki Nishi stop followed by a 1.5 km walk. By car, exit the Hanwa Expressway at Hirokawa Interchange and follow National Routes 23 and 24 for approximately 15.2 km. The nearest regional hub is Osaka, accessible via the JR Kuroshio Limited Express to Kii-Yura Station in roughly 90 minutes.
