Tokyo Fuji Museum

The Tokyo Fuji Art Museum in Hachioji was established in 1983 by Daisaku Ikeda, founder of the Soka Gakkai International Buddhist organization. The museum was created with the mission of promoting peace and cultural exchange through art, reflecting Ikeda's philosophy that artistic appreciation can foster international understanding and harmony among peoples.

The museum houses an impressive collection of approximately 30,000 works spanning diverse cultures and time periods. Its permanent collection includes Western art from the Renaissance through modern periods, featuring works by masters such as Monet, Renoir, and Picasso. The Japanese art collection encompasses traditional paintings, ceramics, and ukiyo-e woodblock prints, while additional galleries display Chinese ceramics, archaeological artifacts, and contemporary photography. This encyclopedic approach makes it one of Japan's most comprehensive private art museums.

Visitors can explore galleries arranged both chronologically and thematically, allowing for comparative viewing across cultures. The museum regularly rotates exhibitions from its extensive collection and hosts special exhibitions featuring loans from international institutions. Alternatively, take a taxi from Hachioji Station for approximately 10 minutes. By car, the museum is accessible via the Chuo Expressway, with free parking available on-site for 300 vehicles. General admission costs ¥1,300 for adults, with discounted rates for students and seniors, though prices may vary for special exhibitions.
