Morioka is the capital city of Iwate Prefecture, located in the Tohoku region of northern Japan. It’s about two hours from Tokyo by bullet train (Shinkansen).
The easiest way to reach Morioka is by taking the Tohoku Shinkansen from Tokyo, which takes around 2–2.5 hours. Buses and local trains are also available from nearby cities.
Key attractions include Morioka Castle Ruins Park, Iwate Park, the historic Ishiwarizakura (a cherry tree growing from a split rock), Hoonji Temple with its 500 Buddha statues, and nearby hot spring areas like Tsunagi Onsen.
