What other travelers are saying about Ashinomaki Onsen Station
The cat (Sakura) is cute but the tourist experience is kinda dull. It is not possible to take pictures of the cat or with the cat due to a previous flash photography incident, so they just banned the whole thing. And the cat is not freely roaming the place like advertised on TV channels or from YouTube creators. He only sit at his designated office, at a distance from the visitor.
There are a lot of pricey cat themed merchandise inside the station.
A station worth exploring. They converted the entire station into a cat Mecca, with cafe, merchandise all dedicated to cat. The station master is also a cat, really cool to see the attention to details!
I was here early to catch the staff cleaning and keeping the space spotless, their dedication and culture is one that every country can learn from!
The human staff were friendly and helpful. My elderly mother wanted to look at the cat, but a young woman was standing at the viewing window for a long time so we couldn't get a chance. We traveled a long way to see it, so I wish the station staff would have said something.
