Bessho Outdoor Sports Center

The Bessho Outdoor Sports Center is located in Okayama Prefecture, situated in the scenic mountainous region that characterizes much of the area's inland terrain. This facility was developed as part of Japan's broader initiative to promote outdoor recreation and sports tourism, particularly following the increased interest in nature-based activities during the latter decades of the 20th century. The center serves as a hub for both competitive sports training and recreational activities for visitors seeking to engage with the natural environment of the Chugoku region.

The site holds significance primarily for its natural setting rather than cultural heritage, positioned within forested highlands that offer clear air and diverse terrain suitable for various outdoor pursuits. The surrounding landscape features typical vegetation of western Honshu's mountainous zones, with seasonal changes providing distinct recreational opportunities throughout the year. The facility capitalizes on Okayama's geographic advantages, including its relatively mild climate and accessibility from major urban centers in the Kansai and Chugoku regions.

Visitors to Bessho Outdoor Sports Center can engage in multiple activities depending on the season and available facilities. The center typically offers opportunities for camping, hiking, and various field sports, with designated areas for group activities and family recreation. Trails of varying difficulty levels allow exploration of the surrounding natural environment, while open sports fields accommodate organized activities. The facility generally provides equipment rental services and basic amenities to support day visitors and overnight campers.

Access to the center requires private transportation, as it is located approximately 30 to 40 kilometers from central Okayama City, depending on the specific route taken. The journey by car typically takes around 45 minutes to one hour via local roads that wind through rural and forested areas. Public transportation options are limited, making a rental car the most practical choice for most visitors. Admission fees vary based on the facilities used and the type of activities planned, with separate charges typically applying for camping sites, sports field usage, and equipment rentals.

What other travelers are saying about Bessho Outdoor Sports Center

There are private businesses across the river in front of us, but if you choose a campsite, there are also blind spots. This time, 20 people rented a BBQ, and we didn't have to wash anything or clean up the charcoal. We were also able to freely use the kitchen in the management building for the day, and we were even able to throw away our trash before we left, so it was great for casual use. The kids played in the river and even raised yamame trout. The large roof with curtains to protect from wind and rain meant we didn't have to worry about the weather, so we had peace of mind.

It's a well-equipped facility in a natural setting. You can easily enjoy catching fish (reservations required) and then barbecue the catch! The kitchen and barbecue facilities are spacious and easy to use, so it can easily accommodate a group of around 50-60 people.

I used it for a BBQ with friends. The person at reception was very kind! There's a parking lot nearby, so it was relatively easy to carry our luggage. We were able to relax with the sound of the stream flowing at the edge of the campsite playing in the background. I'd like to go again. Next time, I'd like to go cycling as well.

If you do simple things like separating your trash, they'll even clean up after you with the charcoal! I'm amazed. Thank you!

It's an honor that the facility is functioning, so it's maintained to a minimum extent. It's a system whose concept I don't understand.
