I visited in August 2025. Admission is free. This historical exhibition facility utilizes the tenement houses remaining in the lower residence of the Yamauchi family, lords of the Tosa domain. The second floor features panels of famous Kochi figures and a model ship. The first floor features furnishings and other items.
The tenement houses were once home to samurai and retainers, and are valuable relics that convey the lifestyle of a samurai residence in the Edo period.
The museum displays materials and models related to the history of the Yamauchi family and the domain's government, as well as samurai life, allowing visitors to learn about the lifestyle and local culture of the time.
The building itself retains the characteristics of an Edo-period samurai residence, making it a popular spot for locals and tourists to experience the history and climate of Tosa.
It's located next to the entrance of Hotel Sansuien. The pin on Google Maps was off, so I ended up walking around the whole area.
You can tour the row houses for free. There are various old documents on the second floor.
