What other travelers are saying about Furano Cheese Factory
I really love the cheese-flavored soft ice cream here – it’s my absolute favorite! Highly recommended in any season. The seating area is comfortable, and you can also enjoy making cheese and butter yourself. Their pizza is pretty good too!
A great stop for anyone interested in cheese and local food production. The facility is clean, informative, and offers a look into how their famous cheese is made. You can watch part of the process through viewing windows and learn about different cheese types. The tasting samples are a nice bonus, and the freshly made cheese is delicious. Don’t miss the milk ice cream and pizza from the cafe next door. A peaceful, family-friendly spot surrounded by nature. Great for cheese lovers and curious travelers!
Cheese Factory that sells various cheese products and conducts cheese, butter and ice cream making experiences. Attended the butter making (40min) and cheese making (1hr) experiences. Had fun working out the arms during the butter making. Had to shake the heavy in a glass bottle for 8 to 10 minutes. After that, hands were shaking and couldn't write properly. Salted the butter to taste and we could bring it home. Cheese making was not as 'strenuous', just some stirring and folding. Procedures were given for both sessions, and you could bring the instructions home. You are given a sticker to decorate and paste onto your container of butter or cheese. Those who made ice cream got to eat them after the session.
There is also a restaurant selling pizzas baked there. Tried their margarita and onion pizzas. Yummy...
Visited the Furano Cheese Factory which also includes an ice cream shop and a pizza kitchen. We even saw classrooms where students were learning how to make waffles and other desserts, which added a nice, hands-on vibe to the place.
The most eye-catching item was the asparagus ice cream. It felt a little too adventurous for me, so I gave it a pass and tried other flavors instead. The ice cream was light, not too sweet, and really let the fresh milk flavor shine.
Important heads-up: both the ice cream and pizza shops only accept cash. We were already running low on Japanese yen, so we ended up skipping the pizza despite being completely tempted by the amazing smell. Unfortunately, we had already bought the ice cream first. And since both of us are more into savory food, that was a bit of a regret. Lesson learned.
Inside the main hall, there was a cheese tasting station where we sampled all the different cheeses on sale. We bought the one we liked most right after.
Overall, it’s a chill and family-friendly stop with fresh milk, light desserts, great-smelling pizza and a fun little cheese lesson. Just remember to bring cash if you plan to indulge in everything.
Located 3.5 km from jr Furano station, the cheese factory manufactures cheese, butter and ice cream for commercial sale, but the location offers visitors a lot of activities like butter, cheese, ice cream making classes. Fun and learning activities for all age groups.
