What other travelers are saying about Furano Winery
A delightful stop for wine lovers in the heart of Hokkaido. Furano Winery offers an immersive experience, from the charming entrance at Chateau Furano to the cellar tours showcasing rows of oak barrels and beautifully aged bottles. The tasting area is well-stocked with a diverse selection of local wines, including their award-winning Portland white and fun collaborations with the Hokkaido Fighters. The wines are well-crafted, with a refreshing fruitiness characteristic of the region. Informative displays and a peek into the winemaking process round out a pleasant visit. A must-visit for those exploring the Furano area.
No one to guide us when we were there. So we just walked around and tried the free tasting wine. There are paid tasting wine too.
Has a small souvenir shop where you can get wine and some snacks.
Pleasant exploring the winery and learning the process of making red and white wine! You can taste 3 wines for free and many other wines at a small cost. You can buy many selections of wine there. They accept most credit cards (but not Youtrip), and they are not tax free at all.
Our day trip to the town of Biei had us stopping here. Founded in 1972, views from here are very picturesque.
EXPERIENCE:
No active production can be seen here, like the majority of public Hokkaido manufacturing. Walk and read the signs if you wish. An aging room can be viewed behind glass windows but I wouldn’t stay in there long as it had a funky odor and what looked like black mold on the walls.
Upstairs you’ll find a tasting room with a self-serve station featuring 2 types of white and 2 types of red wine dispensed from tiny barrels. Thereafter is the gift shop.
TIP:
Their grape juice factory is closed until 2025.
OVERALL:
Visit to taste the wine and purchase. Skip everything else.
A nice place to visit. A 2 level building and display some local Furano wine. Reasonable price. They even have free and paid wine tasting. Beautiful area too and ample parking. Will be back
