Goro Sky Tower is an observation tower on Mount Goro in Maizuru City, Kyoto Prefecture, overlooking Maizuru Bay and the Sea of Japan. The tower was constructed to provide panoramic views of Maizuru's geography, particularly the bay's deep natural harbor significant in the city's development as a naval and commercial port. Mount Goro's elevation at approximately 301 meters makes it an ideal vantage point for observing coastline, bay, and urban areas. The tower was developed to promote tourism, highlighting scenic coastal landscape and maritime heritage.

The tower provides panoramic views of Maizuru's coastal geography. Maizuru Bay is a deep-water natural harbor historically serving military and commercial shipping. The observation deck allows views across the bay, Maizuru city, the Tango Peninsula, and on clear days, the Sea of Japan coastline. The tower provides visual context for Maizuru's development as a port city and naval base. Mount Goro's forested slopes and seasonal vegetation offer nature appreciation. The position makes it valuable for sunset views over the Sea of Japan.

Visitors access the observation deck via elevators or stairs, reaching the viewing level with 360-degree panoramic views through windows and outdoor platforms. The deck provides perspectives of bay, city, coastline, and inland mountains. Informational displays identify visible landmarks and geographical features. Photography captures coastal landscape, bay, and scenery. The tower may include exhibition spaces explaining Maizuru's history, maritime heritage, or geography. Mount Goro includes walking paths and green spaces. Evening visits provide city lights and sunset views.

Goro Sky Tower is located on Mount Goro in Maizuru City, accessible from JR Higashi-Maizuru Station or JR Nishi-Maizuru Station on the JR Maizuru Line via local buses or taxis. The journey from the stations to Mount Goro typically requires 15 to 30 minutes by car or bus, depending on the specific route. From major cities, Maizuru is accessible from Kyoto via limited express trains on the JR Maizuru Line in approximately 90 to 120 minutes. The tower's mountain location may require winding roads to reach the facility.

Traveler reviews

Astonishing clear skies and Sea of Japan from the tower that waiting to be discovered. Hidden treasure of Kyoto. The curry and pancakes were amazingly delicious and the atmosphere was so refreshing. However the hill was way too far away from the station that taxi ride was preferred. Free parking provided.

Worth the drive to the top. Excellent views from the area outside the tower. A quick trip and a small fee (150¥ to 300¥, see the picture of my ticket) gets you to the top in an elevator. Stairs are available if you so desire the exercise. Great views from the top of the tower, even on an overcast day. Small giftshop and Cafe on site for souvenirs and food.

Fantastic wide view of Maizuru and surrounding area. Definitely good place to stop and you can get a good workout if you’ve up to walking or biking to the top.

Very high observation deck in-between west and east Maizuru. A bit hard to get there but the view is fantastic. Be careful of closing time during winter time (5 pm).

The view from the top is so beautiful. You see that Port and the ship from the top. You can spend a good hour there, there is option for food in the location. Must visit when you are in Maizuru.
