Hakata Machiya Folk Museum

Hakata Machiya Folk Museum offers a charming and immersive dive into Fukuoka’s rich cultural heritage. Located in the historic Hakata district, this museum beautifully preserves the traditional way of life in Hakata during the Meiji and Taisho periods (1868-1926).

The museum is set in a restored machiya, a traditional wooden townhouse, providing an authentic glimpse into the past. Visitors can explore the meticulously recreated rooms, filled with period furniture and everyday items, showcasing the lifestyle and customs of old Hakata.

One of the highlights of the Hakata Machiya Folk Museum is the hands-on workshops. Here, you can try your hand at traditional crafts such as Hakata doll painting and weaving, guided by skilled artisans. These interactive experiences make the museum especially engaging for both adults and children.
