Hakone Summer Festival Week in August is a vibrant celebration packed with tradition and excitement. Picture this: hundreds of glowing lanterns gently floating on Lake Ashi during the Toro Nagashi ceremony, each carrying wishes and memories. It’s more than just a pretty sight; it’s a moment of deep connection to the past, honoring the spirits of ancestors.

Then, there’s the fireworks—massive displays that light up the sky and reflect off the calm lake. Some nights, you might see over 2,000 fireworks bursting into color, creating an unforgettable scene against the backdrop of Hakone’s mountains.

But it’s not just about the visuals. The festival brings the sounds of taiko drumming and the rhythm of bon odori dancing. Streets are filled with the aroma of yakitori grilling and the sweet chill of kakigori. It’s a feast for the senses, blending the old and new in one of Japan’s most scenic spots.
