Hidagawa Park, Gero

Hidagawa Park is a large public park along the Hida River in Gero City, Gifu Prefecture. The park serves as a recreational hub for the Hida region, situated in the town of Hagiwara, near the famous Gero Onsen hot spring resort. The park covers approximately 70,000 square meters and functions primarily as a sports and leisure facility for local families and visitors to the area.

The park's natural setting provides spectacular views of the surrounding mountain ranges and the clear waters of the Hida River. It is recognized as one of the best places in Gero City for seasonal flowers, with cherry blossoms and tulips blooming throughout the year. In spring, 350 cherry trees bloom in full display, making it a notable destination for hanami (cherry blossom viewing). The park's riverside location offers visitors a peaceful atmosphere with cooling breezes, particularly pleasant during warmer months.

Visitors can engage in various recreational activities across the park's well-maintained facilities. The park features a soccer field, tennis courts, a ground golf course, and a bike path. Rental services are available for bikes and tennis equipment, making it convenient for those without their own gear. The park includes playground equipment such as slides and seesaws suitable for children, as well as benches and rest areas throughout the grounds. The expansive lawn areas are ideal for picnics and family gatherings, particularly during weekends when the park attracts local families.

Admission to the park is free, though separate facility usage fees apply for the ground golf course, tennis courts, and multi-purpose ground. The park can be reached by car via National Route 41, approximately 15 minutes from Gero Onsen station. Gero itself is accessible via the JR Takayama Line from Nagoya, with the Limited Express Hida train taking approximately 1 hour and 37 minutes.
