The original structures no longer stand. The ruins consist of multi-layered stone walls and wells embedded in the mountainside. QR codes along the trail link to CG reconstructions of the original castle viewable on smartphones.
The path is approximately 2 kilometers in total and takes around 90 minutes to complete. The route follows uneven stone steps through a cypress forest, which can become slippery after rain. Sturdy footwear is recommended.
Spring (late March to early April) brings cherry blossoms along the trail and castle town. Autumn (October to November) offers mountain foliage against the stone ruins. Both seasons are the most visually rewarding and offer the best hiking conditions.
Ena Station on the JR Chuo Line connects Iwamura to Magome-juku, a preserved Nakasendo post town approximately 1 hour 15 minutes away. Both destinations are manageable as a single day trip from Nagoya.
