Kuwana Civic Hall, also known as Kakiyasu City Hall, is a public cultural facility in Kuwana City, Mie Prefecture. The hall was established to serve as a multipurpose venue for civic events, concerts, theatrical performances, and community gatherings. Located in central Kuwana, the facility represents the city's commitment to providing accessible cultural programming and public assembly spaces for residents and visitors.

The hall functions as a key cultural institution in Kuwana, a historic castle town positioned between Nagoya and the Ise region. Kuwana developed as an important post station on the Tokaido road during the Edo period and maintains cultural ties to traditional arts, local festivals, and regional performing arts traditions. The civic hall continues this heritage by hosting classical music concerts, traditional Japanese performances including kabuki and noh adaptations, contemporary theater productions, and community cultural events throughout the year.

Visitors attending events at Kuwana Civic Hall can experience a range of performances in a modern auditorium equipped with professional sound and lighting systems. The facility accommodates concerts by touring orchestras, recitals by local musicians, dance performances, lectures, and civic ceremonies. The hall's schedule varies by season, featuring both ticketed professional productions and free community events. Exhibition spaces within the building occasionally display local art and historical materials related to Kuwana's cultural development.

Kuwana Civic Hall is located near Kuwana Station, the city's main railway terminal served by JR Kansai Main Line and Kintetsu Nagoya Line. From Kuwana Station, the hall is accessible by local bus or approximately 15 minutes on foot. Visitors traveling from Nagoya can reach Kuwana in roughly 20-30 minutes by Kintetsu limited express or JR rapid train. Free or paid parking is available depending on event schedules.

I went to hear a rakugo performance by the "Goketsu no Kai" (Storytelling Association), which is run by Danshun and five other storytellers. It was my first time in this town, and I didn't know my way around at all. I rented a bicycle at the station and returned it at a port near the hall. The return trip to the station was about a 15-minute walk. The hall is somewhat old, but it's well-maintained. The main hall has a capacity of about 1400 people, but the rakugo performance was held in the small hall. The small hall has a capacity of about 300 seats. The stage is also a decent size.

It was a nice facility. I was surprised at how many restrooms there were considering the facility's size. It was a visitor-friendly facility. When I first went, it was difficult to find the parking lot. It's a paid parking lot on the south side.

Despite its compact size, the hall has seating up to three floors. The front row of the second floor seats probably offers the best view. The seats are relatively low for a second floor, so you don't really feel like you're looking down on the stage. There's a Family Mart right in front and an Apita (supermarket) next door, so you won't have any trouble killing time. It's also within walking distance of the nearest station. I wonder where the parking lot was? I couldn't find it...
