One of my favorite places. The sulfuric smell is very strong. The landscape is most unusual. One side is an erupting gases , on the other side a colorful array of autumn colors.
Worth a visit if you’re in the area. I wouldn’t drive out just for this but there’re plenty of other attractions in the area. If you don’t go In the natural hot spring at the end, it only takes about an hour to visit.
As a foreigner, I felt too uncomfortable to take a dip in the pools under the waterfall as parents let their kids play around naked.
Probably best to go on a weekday as a tourist.
It’s a sight. The roads leading up to it was closed during winter (we went during golden week 2023 / early may)
We walked bout 45 mins /an hour in.
It was closed meaning we had the place to ourselves. 💯
Beautiful and remote geothermal spot. Worth hiking. The northwest parking lot has toilets, a shrine, and access to the river which is warm.
A beautiful trail that leads you to a natural hot spring, with steam from the onsen rising around you as you walk.
I highly recommend bringing flip-flops, a swimsuit, and a towel — you'll want to take a soak once you get there!
