I went to the village along the Kibune River the first week of April. I learned that most restaurants along the river don’t set up platforms on the river until the end of May. One restaurant was setting up a table on the river as we left, though. I went in the morning and there were no other tourists so the shrines were very peaceful. Most of the restaurants seemed to open after 11:00. It is a beautiful area, with lovely shrines and delicious restaurants. I spent a half day there and it was perfect!
We arrived here late in the day, highly recommend spend some time in the village
Very beautiful little town with restaurants along the river. Lots of choice if you are a fish eater, but not great for vegetarians. Can be a bit crowded with tourists, but has a good hike to the nearby train station through a forest dotted with temples.
Short drive from Kyoto central area. Nice and quiet surroundings. A different side of Kyoto. Should have sufficient parking.
If you proceeding to Kayabuki, northern direct route is a dangerous mountainous terrain. Beware. (I suggest using the southern route (back to Kyoto).
a very nice place during summer because it is less hot here, however the price of the food in all restaurants by the river is too high.
