Ok, I don’t mean to discredit its beauty but I am stating this from my experience only, I saw nothing in the fog. The fog was so heavy that afternoon I can only hear the running water of what could’ve been a beautiful waterfall scene. It does live up to its name as a “foggy waterfall”, haha.
I do appreciate the short walk from the carpark / bus stop to the waterfall viewing deck was quite easy, with some changes of paving materials, long logs, dirt, slabs, rocks…
The road signs are also very clear.
The view is amazing and highly recommended, anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour altogether.
Just over 300m to the observation deck.
Look for the sign near the bus stop for the trail, it's on the east side of the restaurant.
Google maps tried to take me on an small trail, this is not needed and there is little indication of where it goes.
This one of the best waterfall in the area. There is no way to get close to the fall though. The autumn colors looks majestic. There is a trail of around 10 minutes or so. There is no entry fee and parking is also free.
There are two restaurants nearby parking area so you can have something to eat as well. Bus service is there too, but the last bus is around 3pm.
The best time to visit Kirifuri Waterfall is during the autumn months, from October to November when the surrounding foliage transforms into vibrant shades of red and orange. However, it is also beautiful in spring and summer.
Kirifuri Waterfall can be accessed by car or public transportation. From Nikko Station, you can take a bus to the Kirifuri Highland area and then walk to the waterfall. Driving is also an option, with parking available nearby.
Swimming near Kirifuri Waterfall is not allowed due to safety concerns. However, visitors can get close to the waterfall by following the designated viewing paths and observation points.
The hike to Kirifuri Waterfall typically takes about 15 to 30 minutes, depending on your starting point and pace. The trail is relatively short but can vary in difficulty.
