Established in 1975, Koga Kubo Park stands as a vast urban park in Koga City, Ibaraki Prefecture, spanning approximately 22.4 hectares. The park holds exceptional international recognition as the first park in Japan to receive the "Melina Mercouri International Prize of UNESCO", an honor that acknowledges outstanding efforts in safeguarding and managing cultural landscapes.

The park's primary claim to fame lies in its spectacular peach blossom displays, featuring various species of peach trees that create breathtaking scenery during the blooming season. The flowering peaches that bloom all over the park are famous throughout Japan, drawing visitors specifically for peach blossom viewing as an alternative to the more crowded cherry blossom sites. The park also showcases Ogahasu variety, dating back some 2000 years, connecting visitors to Japan's ancient horticultural heritage.

Visitors can experience the park's natural beauty through lakeside paths that seem to pull you along, like they've been designed with just enough curve and shade to keep you curious. The park houses various species of peach trees and provides a suitable habitat for different bird species in large ponds, while a small lagoon with weeping willows along the banks creates perfect spots for relaxation. Wildlife enthusiasts will discover a hut with peacocks and peahens, adding to the park's diverse attractions.

The annual Peach Festival represents the park's highlight event, held every year during the blooming season. From mid-March to late March, the Koga Peach Festival celebrates the blooming season with outdoor tea ceremonies and local specialty markets, offering cultural experiences alongside natural beauty. Lakeside paths and cafes provide comfortable viewing points throughout the festival period.

The park maintains its appeal across seasons, with beautiful flowers in every season ensuring year-round attraction for nature lovers. Seasonal flowers, lush greenery, and historical structures create a comprehensive recreational experience within the urban setting.

For transportation, Koga Kubo Park is a 25 minute walk south of Koga Station on the Utsunomiya Line. The park offers free admission, making it accessible for all visitors seeking to experience this UNESCO-recognized cultural landscape. The combination of historical significance, natural beauty, and convenient location makes Koga Kubo Park a distinctive destination for travelers exploring the Ibaraki Prefecture region.

During the peach trees blooming season, the park is beautiful. A large area is dedicated to different varieties of peach trees and large ponds have been created to offer an adequate environment for the different birds. Parking is free which is quite uncommon when it comes to hanami. Clean and modern toilets are available.
