Koibito Misaki Cape

4 (2158)Tourist AttractionObservation DeckPoint Of InterestEstablishment

Koibito Misaki, located on the western coast of the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture, stands as one of Japan's most romantic coastal destinations. The name translates to "Lover's Cape" in English, with "koibito" meaning lovers in Japanese. The site earned its romantic designation due to a local folklore that attracted many tourists, and today it functions as a dedicated destination for couples seeking blessings for their relationships.

The cape's primary cultural significance revolves around the Love Call Bell located at the observation deck. According to local legend, couples who ring the bell three times while calling out their loved one's name will have their love fulfilled. A second bell is dedicated to those searching for their future partner. Visitors can also purchase a "Proof of Lover's Declaration" certificate at the management office as a memento of their visit.

The cape offers exceptional natural scenery overlooking Suruga Bay. On clear days, visitors can view Mount Fuji across the water, making it particularly popular with photographers. Sunset viewing is especially recommended. The site features a 700-meter walk from the parking area through lush greenery to reach the observation deck. The path includes slopes and stairs but leads to a wooden boardwalk extending toward the ocean, offering panoramic coastal views. Benches decorated with small white hearts line the walkway, reinforcing the romantic atmosphere.

The site includes a Lovers Cafe & Shop that operates from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with irregular holidays. The shop offers an extensive selection of couples accessories, keychains, plushies, and phone accessories. The grounds are well-maintained as a landscaped park, and several resident cats have become popular attractions, featured on souvenirs sold at the gift shop.

For public transport, take the Tokai Bus from Shuzenji Station on the Izu Hakone Railway. Board at bus terminal number 4 toward Matsuzaki bus terminal and disembark at Koibito Misaki bus stop. The journey takes approximately 70-80 minutes with a fare around ¥460. From the bus stop, it is a 10-15 minute walk to the cape. By car, free parking is available at the site. From Toi Port, a taxi ride takes approximately 10 minutes with fares around ¥170.

What other travelers are saying about Koibito Misaki Cape

Lovers Point is a sweet little stop with a lovely ocean view and, if the weather cooperates, a glimpse of Mount Fuji. After about a 20 minute hike from the parking area, you reach a simple love bell where couples can ring it three times together as a vow of commitment. It’s cute and makes for a nice photo spot. That said, it is basically just the bell at the end of the trail, and the hike back is fairly steep and tiring. It may not be ideal for elderly visitors or anyone not comfortable with uphill walks. There’s also a cozy coffee shop near the parking area, which is a nice bonus. Best visited on a clear day. Great for couples who don’t mind a bit of a trek for the view.

Absolutely phenomenal view of mount fuji via the sea, and views of the coast all around you. However, check the weather as its not a good idea to come when its cloudy or rainy due to limited visibility. Be prepared to walk 10 minutes on quite steep concrete. Nice walk however.
It was the perfect destination to take a couple. Although the place is called “Lover’s Cape,” it’s a wonderful spot for anyone to enjoy. A short 10-minute walk through lush greenery from the parking area leads to a high vantage point overlooking the sea. The area is rich in nature, with the constant song of bush warblers, and the ocean was beautiful.
Views at the tip of the cape are extremely beautiful but be prepared to walk up and down slopes and climb stairs to the observation deck. Overall perfect place to soak into the seaside view! Unfortunately, I was not able to see a clear of mt Fuji again.
Great views of the bay and Mount Fuji. We walked from Yagisawa - well worth the hike. We also stopped in the cafe for ice creams.

Absolutely. Although the location is themed around romance, single visitors and solo travelers are welcome. There is a dedicated bell specifically for those searching for their future partner. The stunning coastal views, Mount Fuji sightings, and natural beauty can be appreciated by anyone. Many visitors come simply for photography, nature walks, or peaceful contemplation. The romantic theme should not deter solo travelers from experiencing this scenic destination.

Sunset is particularly recommended for visiting Koibito Misaki, as the location offers spectacular sunset views with vibrant colors as a backdrop. Clear weather is essential for the best experience, especially for viewing Mount Fuji across Suruga Bay. The site can be visited year-round, though visibility conditions vary by season. Early morning visits around 10 a.m. tend to be quieter, while weekends and summer may see larger crowds. Autumn and winter generally offer better atmospheric clarity for Mount Fuji views.

Beyond ringing the Love Call Bell three times while calling out a loved one's name, visitors can participate in the tradition of declaring their love officially. Couples can obtain a declaration certificate that provides benefits such as congratulatory telegrams on anniversaries and commemorative gifts. Some couples use the location for marriage proposals given its romantic setting. Comfortable walking shoes are essential due to the slopes and stairs along the path. Bringing a camera is highly recommended for capturing the coastal scenery and potential Mount Fuji views.
