3.8 (835)Public BathRestaurantFoodPoint Of InterestEstablishment

Kumi no Hama Onsen Village is situated in the coastal region of Kyotango City, in the northernmost part of Kyoto Prefecture, facing the Sea of Japan. This natural hot spring destination harmoniously blends mountainous terrain with coastal scenery, offering visitors seasonal beauty throughout the year. The village forms part of the broader Kyoto by the Sea region, known for its pristine beaches and traditional onsen culture.

The village centers around Kumihama Onsen Yumotokan, founded by Mr. Yamada Rokuro and currently operated by his son. The hot spring water is characterized by its crystal-clear appearance and fresh, minimally salty properties, making it particularly popular among local visitors. The facility offers both male and female bathing areas, with day-trip bathing options available for those not staying overnight.

Visitors can experience traditional Japanese hot spring culture through various package options that may include seasonal fruit-picking activities featuring cherries and melons, or specialty crab cuisine prepared by the resort's chef. The location provides an ideal setting for those seeking the authentic onsen experience while enjoying views of both sea and mountain landscapes.

The village serves as a gateway to other notable attractions in the region. Nearby destinations include Ine town, famous for its traditional funaya boat houses, and Amanohashidate, ranked among Japan's three most scenic views, located approximately 30 minutes away by train. The renowned Kinosaki Onsen, one of Japan's premier hot spring villages, lies about 2 hours to the west.

Access to Kumi no Hama Onsen Village requires traveling via the Kyoto Tango Railway system. The nearest station is Shotenkyo Station, located approximately 5 minutes by car from the main onsen facility. Travelers from major cities typically transfer at either Fukuchiyama or Toyooka stations, with connections to the Tango Relay line and subsequent local rail services. The journey from Kyoto city takes approximately 2.5 hours by train, making it accessible as either a day trip or overnight destination. Car access follows similar timing with scenic routes through the northern Kyoto countryside.

What other travelers are saying about Kumi no Hama Onsen Village, Kyotango

I only got to experience the hot springs bath area, but it was amazing. The water is directly from the source, which means that the baths are very hot. But, because it is not diluted in any way, the effect of the hot spring is direct. I felt warm and cozy two days later!

I used it for a day trip to the hot spring. I always pass by but have never used it, so this was my first time. It was small for a hot spring, but the outdoor open-air bath was quite large and had a waterfall, which added to the charm. I'm not sure if the medium bath is only available in winter, but it was a little hot and cold, so it was just right. After entering the reception, you have to take a numbered wooden tag to use the lockers for your shoes, and while the lockers for valuables cost 100 yen and have a lock, the lockers in the changing rooms are keyless, so it's inconsistent and a bit of a hassle to use. I was personally satisfied, but there was one customer who was on a tour or something who had tattoos, so I couldn't relax very much, which was a shame.

I visited the hot springs to soothe my body and mind. It's been about 30 years since my last visit. As it was a weekday, the hot springs were all reserved for me. While the facilities have deteriorated over the years, shampoo, body soap, and even an open-air bath for just 600 yen is excellent value for money. I feel so refreshed. I'd like to visit again.

I visited for a day trip. It's simply amazing. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy free-flowing hot spring water. The piping hot indoor bath is fantastic, and the vast open-air bath with the hot spring water cascading down like a waterfall is also fantastic. If you'd like to express your gratitude to the people who created such a wonderful hot spring, you can do so by soaking in the herbal bath, where you'll see the statue of the founder right in front of you. lol There are some bugs and fallen leaves in the bath, but that's to be expected when the hot spring water is poured into such a large open-air bath via a waterfall. I think it's much cleaner than the recycled bath.
