What other travelers are saying about Mihamaen Garden
A beautiful, peaceful Japanese-style park! I went over the weekend, and there weren’t many people. The lotus shape wagashi and matcha were perfect. I accidentally met two elderly Japanese people, they saw me trying to take photos of myself and kindly offered to help. If you happen to see this comment, I just want to say thank you so much!
Beautiful park inside of the Makuhari Seaside Park. I've read that it's good for a visit during fall season for the leaves changing color. It has a beautiful Japanese garden. There are a couple of ponds with Koi. You can feed the koi. You need to purchase at the entrance. There are plenty of seats scattered around. Good place when you want to get away from the noise and just relax with nature. Be warned though, there are plenty of tiny flying insects that fly around in spots in clusters.
It's a quiet and peaceful garden, kept in shape nicely. If I lived there, I'd probably go here often. There's a tea house as well. I thought the toilet (on the outside) has a nice design and is in perfect shape.
Really worth the visit! Beautiful gardens with a pond and tea house. Tip: apart from the entrance ticket (¥100 per adult), buy the tea set coupon (¥600) for a memorable matcha experience! The garden has various paths where you can enjoy different views and angles, all very instagramable.
Pretty awesome little Japanese garden with a tea house. I strongly recommend purchasing tickets for the tea house when you go. They serve you green tea and a traditional pastry, both are delicious and can be enjoyed in a super quiet room with a perfect view of the pond.
Admission to Mihamaen Garden is very affordable at ¥100 for adults and ¥50 for children. If you wish to experience the Shorai-tei teahouse, there is an additional charge of ¥400 to ¥500 for matcha green tea and traditional sweets.
Take the JR Keiyo Line or Musashino Line to Kaihin-Makuhari Station. From the south exit, Mihamaen Garden is an 8 to 10-minute walk. The station area has English signage to guide visitors. If driving, parking is available at surrounding lots for approximately ¥610 for 8 hours.
Mihamaen Garden is open 365 days a year and offers different experiences each season. Autumn is particularly popular for viewing vibrant red and gold maple foliage. The annual Lantern Festival in November features approximately 200 lanterns and evening illumination. Spring brings blossoms, while winter offers serene snow-covered landscapes.
The garden is designed in the traditional chisen kaiyu shiki style, featuring a winding path around a central pond that represents natural elements like mountains, rivers, and seas. Many materials were brought directly from Kyoto, including bamboo fences and stone walls. The garden's unique location creates a striking contrast between traditional Japanese aesthetics and the modern skyscrapers of Makuhari New City.
Yes, the Shorai-tei teahouse within the garden offers traditional tea experiences. Visitors can enjoy matcha green tea and sweets during regular operating hours. For a more formal experience, traditional tea ceremonies and outdoor tea parties can be arranged through prior reservation, and these are designed to be accessible even for those unfamiliar with tea ceremony traditions.
