Okinoshima Island — an uninhabited island connected to the mainland by a sandbar and approximately 8 minutes by car from the facility — is a popular addition, offering coastal walks, fishing, and snorkelling in clear waters. Tateyama Castle (Shiroyama Park) is also close by.
I stopped by Nagisa no Eki Tateyama. It's a tourist facility located right on Tateyama Bay, a wonderful spot to relax while enjoying the ocean view.
Inside, there's a "Seaside Plaza" with a large aquarium, a museum where you can learn about marine culture, and a gallery featuring Sakana-kun (a famous Japanese fish expert). There were more things to see and do than I expected, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There's also an observation deck with a panoramic view of Tateyama Bay, and it was so refreshing to enjoy the scenery while feeling the sea breeze.
There's also a market selling souvenirs and local specialties, as well as a restaurant, making it perfect for a break. It's a great place to easily stop by during your Tateyama sightseeing trip, and a highly recommended spot to relax and enjoy the ocean atmosphere.
It's about a 15-minute walk from Tateyama Station. You can visit the aquarium for free, and you can purchase local souvenirs and vegetables at reasonable prices. The loquat soft serve ice cream was delicious and not too sweet.
They were selling agricultural products, local goods, sweets, etc.
The soft serve ice cream, floats, and shakes were delicious.
There were fish and a pier nearby, which we were able to visit.
