Okayama Jinja Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in Okayama City on the grounds of Okayama Castle. The shrine was established in 1935 to enshrine Ikeda Mitsumasa, the third lord of the Okayama Domain who ruled from 1632 to 1672. Ikeda Mitsumasa is revered as one of Okayama's most important historical figures, credited with implementing educational reforms, infrastructure development, and establishing Shizutani School in 1670, recognized as Japan's oldest commoner school.

The shrine honors enlightened governance during the Edo period. Ikeda Mitsumasa's legacy includes promoting Confucian learning, improving agricultural techniques, and implementing flood control projects along the Asahi River. His establishment of Shizutani School demonstrated commitment to education for all social classes. The shrine's location adjacent to Okayama Castle connects political power with cultural patronage. The grounds include traditional shrine architecture with torii gates, worship halls, and wooded pathways.

Visitors approach through torii gates and walk stone pathways to the main worship hall displaying traditional Shinto design with wooden construction. Visitors follow customary practices of bowing, rinsing hands at the temizuya (purification fountain), and offering prayers. The shrine sells omamori (protective amulets) and ema (wooden prayer plaques). Informational signs provide context about Ikeda Mitsumasa's achievements. The proximity to Okayama Castle allows convenient combined visits.

Access from Okayama Station on the JR Sanyo Shinkansen and JR Sanyo Main Line by city tram (approximately 5 minutes to Shiroshita Station), then 10-minute walk through castle grounds. By foot from Okayama Station, approximately 20 minutes. Reach Okayama via shinkansen from Tokyo (about 3.5 hours), Osaka (roughly 50 minutes), or Hiroshima (approximately 40 minutes). Located within Okayama Castle Park adjacent to Korakuen Garden. Shrine admission is free.
