Ome Railway Park

4.1 (1363)Tourist AttractionParkMuseumPoint Of InterestEstablishment

The Ome Railway Park is a railway museum located in Ome City, western Tokyo, operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East). Established in 1962, the park was created to preserve and display historic railway vehicles as Japan's railway network rapidly modernized. It stands as one of Japan's oldest railway museums and serves as an important repository of the country's railway heritage, showcasing the evolution of train technology from steam locomotives to early electric trains.

The museum's collection features 11 preserved railway vehicles, including steam locomotives, electric trains, and diesel railcars that operated across Japan from the late 19th century through the mid-20th century. Notable exhibits include the ED16 1 electric locomotive from 1931 and the Class C11 steam locomotive, which visitors can board and explore. The park also displays railway equipment, signals, and station fixtures that illustrate the development of Japan's rail infrastructure. A small indoor exhibition hall contains railway memorabilia, historical photographs, and miniature train models that provide context to Japan's railway history.

Visitors can walk among the full-sized trains positioned outdoors, climb into select cabins, and examine the engineering details of vintage locomotives up close. The compact park layout makes it accessible for families with children, and the interactive nature of the exhibits appeals particularly to railway enthusiasts and those interested in industrial history. The outdoor setting allows for photography opportunities with the trains against the backdrop of Ome's natural surroundings.

Ome Railway Park is accessible via the JR Ome Line from central Tokyo, with the nearest station being Ome Station, approximately 10 minutes on foot from the park entrance. The journey from Shinjuku Station takes roughly 70 to 90 minutes with transfers. Admission is remarkably affordable at 100 yen for adults and 50 yen for children, making it one of Tokyo's most budget-friendly attractions. The park has free parking available for visitors arriving by car, though spaces are limited on weekends and holidays.

What other travelers are saying about Ome Railway Park

(Mainly) outdoor train museum of sorts. It is aimed at children. There are a few steam locomotives you can explore as well as lots of coin operated rides. There is a shinkansen engine too, but when we visited (February 2018) it was closed for a repaint. The mini train that goes around a track is good fun. There are a couple of displays inside including a model town that has runs on the half hour. A staff member narrates the train show. At the end a Thomas train and Anpanman train also run around the track. It is only 100 yen into the park, but each ride costs a 100 or 200 yen to operate. There is free parking, but it is not the space right in front of the museum, although cars park there it is actually a no parking area. The parking is just past the park at the foot of the cliff.

This is a great place to take the kids for a day out. Adults and older kids are 100¥ each little ones are free. They regularly do little shows with the electric trains and there are big retired trains outside that the kids can climb on. This is a great place for the price.

We came from a very place just to see this museum. We check their website and google and placed supposed to be open. It seems to be closed without any prediction of opening. Very irresponsible wasting people’s time like that

Lotta trains and small rides. Cheap and fun. Great for small kids for a couple hours, bigger ones might get bored quickly.

The place and the ambiance is really nice. It was hot that time when we went there. But because it was surrounded by trees the weather was just right. Not too hot. You'll need to bring lots of ¥100 for the kids ride. Small but kids will enjoy. Bringing car is okay they provide parking lot at front and near the park.
