What other travelers are saying about Oizumi Anime Gate
Easy to find. Use the north exit of the train station then make an immediate right and you should be able to see this area.
Oizumi had been a place where anime artists and studio were located quite a while back. Not sure about now though.
These statues and panels are a nice reminder of characters loved by many.
Foot traffic can be heavy during commute times and weekends/holidays, so if you’re looking to take picture of/with your favorite character(s) pick a time when there isn’t that much traffic.
I would say there’s not much to see, although what you will see are nice in themselves. Then again, I’m not really an anime fan. This attraction is right outside the station exit/entrance gates, and many passersby take photos. Maybe if one had the time, it would be nice to read what’s on the inscriptions.
It was cute and full of history. For those that want to say they have been there. But it’s for a quick stop
What you see in the picture is the entirety of the attraction. Anime Gate consists of some plaques and five bronze statues of famous anime characters who helped put the area's animation studios on the world map.
Great if you want to take a more serious anime-themed selfie...
I guess you have to be a die hard anime fan to go to this metro terminal since all you will see are some very well done bronze statues and a little timeline regarding the history of anime. But that's about it, there is nothing more to see and the only studios I visited are the toei shueisha and they are a little far away walking distance and again the museum is definitely not worth a visit, there is almost nothing to see.
Oizumi Anime Gate is a landmark that opened in April 2015 on the pedestrian deck outside the north exit of Oizumi Gakuen Station in Nerima, Tokyo. It serves as a symbol of Nerima, which calls itself "Anime City Ichiban" (the number one city for anime).
The gate features life-sized bronze statues of iconic anime characters, including Astro Boy, Joe Yabuki from "Ashita no Joe" (Tomorrow's Joe), Tetsuro Hoshino and Maetel from Galaxy Express 999, and Lum from Urusei Yatsura. These characters all have connections to Nerima.
Toei Animation, the first anime production company in Japan and famous for series like One Piece, Sailor Moon, and Dragon Ball, is located near Oizumi Gakuen Station. Several manga artists, including Rumiko Takahashi (creator of Urusei Yatsura and Inuyasha), have lived in the area.
The gate is located right outside Oizumi Gakuen Station on the Seibu Ikebukuro Line in Nerima, Tokyo. Simply exit from the north exit of the station and you'll find it on the pedestrian deck. It's very easy to access and visible immediately upon exiting.
If you're an anime fan, especially one who appreciates classic anime from the 1960s-1980s, it's a worthwhile quick stop. The statues make great photo opportunities and it's essentially a free, open-air mini museum celebrating anime history. However, it's a small area that takes only a few minutes to see, so it's best combined with a visit to the nearby Toei Animation Museum.
