important spot in Japanese history when commodore Perry forced the Shogunate to open up. Nowadays a few old houses and a shoddy museum
cheap parking though 100yen
Canal for boats lined by willow and shops similar to other Japan old town
Picturesque street of old houses and restaurants offering nice food. It’s a short walk from one end to the other but worth a visit if you’re in the area.
Road isn’t long but pretty and nice for relaxing walk.
If you are planning to visit only Shimoda town with this road - don't. It is not worth at all - during weekdays everhthing is closed, old, not taken care off.
We parked at the harbor (near the Monument to Perry’s Landing—parking was about 500 yen) and enjoyed a relaxed walk to Perry Road, passing through Chorakuji Temple and ending at Ryosenji, where The Museum of the Black Ship is also located. The stroll itself takes about 15 minutes, and it's lined with charming shops and cafes, although they were mostly closed during our late September visit. I'd suggest coming in spring or summer when everything's in full bloom. Loved the chill vibe, perfect for a leisurely stroll.
