What other travelers are saying about Shichirigahama Beach
Finally standing on the shores of Shichirigahama Beach, arguably the most important location in the entire Aobuta series. This stretch of sand has seen it all—from the tender moments between Sakuta and Mai-san to the fateful encounters with Makinohara Shouko.
Looking out at the Pacific Ocean, I could feel the weight of all those emotional scenes. However, I learned a little lesson about timing today! Because I visited in the middle of summer, the humidity and haze completely hid Mount Fuji from view. In the anime, you often see that iconic snow-capped peak in the background, but summer in Japan usually keeps it tucked away behind a veil of clouds.
Even without Fuji-san making an appearance, the sound of the waves and the vast horizon made the experience deeply moving. It’s a place of beginnings and endings, and being here felt like a dream come true.
A note for future travelers: If you want that perfect anime shot with Mount Fuji behind the Enoshima island, winter is actually the best time! The air is much clearer then. But there’s something special about being here in the summer too—the heat and the sea breeze are exactly what the characters felt during their summer breaks. It’s just one more reason to come back again during a different season!
Incredible beach!
Much quieter than the main beach and super easy to get to on the tram.
Beautiful views of the bay and the ocean, and almost completely sandy, but beware that the sand gets very hot in summer! Definitely bring umbrellas and sun shades if you are staying.
Got stung by a small jellyfish in the water in summer so be careful of those but otherwise a lovely beach.
Shichirigahama Beach is absolutely stunning! Watching the waves crash and seeing surfers riding them was such a beautiful and calming experience. The view of the ocean with the horizon stretching out endlessly was pure magic. Whether you're just taking a walk, relaxing, or snapping some photos, this beach has a really special atmosphere.
Highly recommend if you're in Kamakura!
I got up early in the morning and I just went there for breakfast and then went back to downtown Tokyo. Is fascinating enough just to ride on the train and having a great view for breakfast is a bonus.
The clearest views occur between October and February, when cooler, drier air reduces haze. Early mornings on cloudless days offer the sharpest visibility, with Fuji typically appearing snow-capped above the horizon.
The beach is open for swimming during the official summer season from mid-July to late August, with lifeguards on duty. Outside this period, the beach is more commonly used by surfers, who visit year-round for its consistent Pacific swells.
Shichirigahama is approximately 4 kilometres west of Kamakura Station, about a 10-minute ride on the Enoden Line.
Public restrooms and outdoor showers are available near the shore. Several cafés and restaurants line National Route 134 directly behind the beach, most with ocean-facing seating. Facilities are reduced outside the summer season.
Yes. Enoshima Island is reachable in under 15 minutes on the Enoden Line. Kamakura's Great Buddha (Kotoku-in) is approximately 20 minutes away by train, making Shichirigahama a straightforward stop on a broader Kamakura itinerary.
