What other travelers are saying about Shiranoe Botanical Garden
I went during November, so there weren't any flowers. It looks like it's much better in the Spring. It does have a nice view of the sea from the top. I think it's a nice place for a short hike since it's located on a hill. The cost is also quite cheap! They have a discount for foreigners too.
A pleasant visit. Though we did not covered the whole garden, we did enjoy autumn leaves in the garden. We were also pleasantly surprised when the lady at the ticket counter offered us a 20% discount on the entrance ticket. 😊
2023/11/17 - maple trees have not turned fully red yet. Probably 1 more week to see autumn colours 🍁 Quiet and Rainy day. Will be 5⭐if come at the right time.
We reached about 3.30pm, which is just over an hr before it closes, and we were ushered in without the need for tickets.
Japanese makes their gardens different. We regret not coming earlier to properly finish touring the garden. It's so beautiful!
The garden is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily, with last admission at 4:30 PM. It is closed on Mondays (except when Monday falls on a national holiday, in which case it closes the following Tuesday instead). The garden also remains open during peak seasons such as cherry blossom and autumn foliage periods, regardless of the day of the week.
The optimal visiting periods are late March to early April for cherry blossoms, May and October for rose blooms, and November for autumn foliage. Spring offers the most diverse flowering displays with azaleas, camellias, and various bulbs in bloom. Each season presents different botanical highlights, so the garden rewards visits throughout the year depending on your interests.
The garden offers free guided tours on weekends and holidays, typically departing at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM from the main entrance. Tours are conducted in Japanese and last approximately 60 minutes. The garden also hosts seasonal workshops, botanical lectures, and children's nature programs—check the official website or inquire at the information desk for current schedules and any advance registration requirements.
Yes, visitors are permitted to bring their own food and beverages. Designated picnic areas are available near the Japanese garden section where you can enjoy meals. The garden also has a small café and rest area near the entrance offering light refreshments, drinks, and seasonal ice cream. Vending machines are located at several points throughout the grounds.
Most of the main pathways are paved and wheelchair accessible, including routes to the tropical greenhouse, rose garden, and Japanese garden. However, some forest trails and hillside sections have slopes or unpaved surfaces that may be challenging. Wheelchair rentals are available free of charge at the entrance upon request. Accessible restrooms are located near the main facilities, and staff can provide route recommendations based on mobility needs.
