What other travelers are saying about Tokugawa Art Museum
We are lucky enough to visit Tokugawa museum one day before they closed for maintenance and holidays until 3rd of January 2026. This is a small museum but very informative and well displayed. There are explanations in English which help us (non Japanese speaking tourists like us) to understand and appreciate the arts. You can take the picture with phones or small personal camera without flash ( No DSLR or Mirrorless camera ) apart from one room - where no photos are allowed at all. There is a small cafe and souvenir shop. We bought the ticket for both museum and garden - which is better price. Garden is a must visit place for anyone who loves to see Japanese Garden ( well maintained and beautiful). There are still plenty of beautiful changing leaves 🍁 to impress any visitor especially keen photographers.
Overall we are very happy with our visit. Thanks Tokugawa museum and staffs.

Plan approximately 1.5 to 2 hours for the museum alone. If visiting the combination of museum and Tokugawa Garden, allocate 2.5 to 3 hours total. The time varies depending on your interest level in samurai culture and Japanese art.
One different museum that had a lovely samurai collection that also showed the wonderful culture of Japan. The gift shop has wonderful goodies that are only found here. The staff are very welcoming and sweet.
A very fascinating and interesting museum. We loved reading about the history and seeing so much on display for viewing, very impressive. The garden was just as enjoyable with great views to behold. We're so glad we decided to visit. Highly recommend.
Since I liked Tokugawa Shogunate history, I was really happy to visit this museum. It has English explanation on each exhibit which was great for us foreigners. I bought the entry ticket in a bundle with the Tokugawa Garden ticket, and if I remember correctly it's about 1,500 yen. Be careful not to take a video because they prohibit you to, but taking picture is OK as long as you do not use flash and only use a smartphone.
I recommend you to visit this museum if you like Japanese history like me.
A small art museum for sword, armour sets, tea sets, some paintings, etc. Is it a must visit? My answer is not. There’s a small beautiful garden nearby, they charge a small amount to entry.
