Honestly, I was expecting a little more from Tokyo Anime Center. Don't get me wrong — it’s still a really cool spot, but compared to some of the other places in Akihabara, it didn’t quite blow me away.
The exhibits are fun and very nicely put together. When I visited, they had a special display for a current anime series, which was awesome to see up close. There were original sketches, exclusive merch, and even a few interactive elements. It felt really curated and respectful to the fans. I loved that part, and as an anime fan, I appreciated being able to get closer to the creative process.
But... it’s pretty small. I went through everything much faster than I thought I would. It kind of left me wanting more. Also, while they did have some limited edition goods, the shop wasn’t as big or varied as I hoped.
On the plus side, the staff were really friendly and helpful (they even spoke some English), and the atmosphere was definitely chill. It’s a good stop if you’re already in Akihabara and want a deeper dive into anime culture — just don’t expect to spend hours here.
Still, I’m giving it 4 stars because it’s very well done and I’m glad I went, but next time I’d probably only pop in if there was a special exhibition for a series I really love.
