Even though Yakushima is home to many waterfalls, this one of the rare places in Japan where a waterfall flows directly into the ocean is one of the rarest. 🧐
The entrance is across the road from Pon-Tan-kan.
Many people park their cars at Pon-Tan-kan, so be careful when crossing the road. 🖐️
A 2-3 minute walk will take you to a spot where you can overlook the falls, but it's narrower than you'd expect. lol
If it's crowded, it might be best to move quickly and take photos. lol
I went there because it is one of only two waterfalls in Japan that fall into the sea. The waterfall itself is small and the only unusual thing about it is that it falls into the sea, but the view of the blue of the sea and sky, the green of the mountains, the red of the bridge, and Mt. Mochomu towering in the background is spectacular.
Looking from the red bridge, you can't see the waterfall, but the color of the sea beyond is beautiful.
By the way, the name Toroki is apparently derived from "Todoroki" (roaring).
Toroki Falls, surrounded by the beautiful nature of Yakushima, is a spectacular spot that captivates all who visit. This waterfall has the unusual feature of the river water flowing directly into the sea, and you can enjoy the exquisite scenery of the sea and the waterfall.
The waterfall is surrounded by lush greenery, and on sunny days in particular, the light reflects off the water's surface, creating a fantastic atmosphere. There is also a walking path, so it is easy to access and is recommended for families and couples.
Another attraction is that the waterfall shows different expressions depending on the season and time of day. It is truly a spectacular view.
Yes, there are several hiking trails that lead to and around the falls. The trails vary in difficulty, so make sure to choose one that suits your fitness level.
The falls may be challenging for those with mobility issues due to the uneven terrain and stairs along the trails. There are some viewpoints that are more accessible, but the full experience requires some hiking.
There aren’t designated picnic areas at the falls, but there are some scenic spots along the nearby trails or within a short distance. Be sure to follow Leave No Trace principles and pack out any trash.
