What other travelers are saying about Toroki Falls
I went there because it is one of only two waterfalls in Japan that fall into the sea. The waterfall itself is small and the only unusual thing about it is that it falls into the sea, but the view of the blue of the sea and sky, the green of the mountains, the red of the bridge, and Mt. Mochomu towering in the background is spectacular.
Looking from the red bridge, you can't see the waterfall, but the color of the sea beyond is beautiful.
By the way, the name Toroki is apparently derived from "Todoroki" (roaring).
Toroki Falls, surrounded by the beautiful nature of Yakushima, is a spectacular spot that captivates all who visit. This waterfall has the unusual feature of the river water flowing directly into the sea, and you can enjoy the exquisite scenery of the sea and the waterfall.
The waterfall is surrounded by lush greenery, and on sunny days in particular, the light reflects off the water's surface, creating a fantastic atmosphere. There is also a walking path, so it is easy to access and is recommended for families and couples.
Another attraction is that the waterfall shows different expressions depending on the season and time of day. It is truly a spectacular view.
According to a Kagoshima tourism website, Toroki Falls, located at the mouth of the Koino River, is "one of only two waterfalls in Japan that fall into the sea." Parking is available in the spacious car park at Pontankan across the road, from where it is about a three-minute walk. The path is well-maintained up the middle, but the path is a little rough at the end, so sneakers are recommended. From the observation deck, you can see the waterfall cascading directly from the river into the sea, the red bridge, and Mt. Mochomu with its exposed rocks in the background. On your way back from seeing the waterfall, we recommend "Pontankan's passion fruit shaved ice"!
There is a side path behind the Pontankan sign, which is across from Magokoroichi Pontankan, that leads to the waterfall.
I would like to have a sign for Toroki Falls.
