Tsukinoishi Momiji Park, Nagatoro

4 (1237)ParkTourist AttractionPoint Of InterestEstablishment

Tsukinoishi Momiji Park is a public park in Nagatoro Town, Saitama Prefecture, known for autumn foliage displays along the Arakawa River. The park takes its name from Tsukinoishi (Moon Stone), a large rock in the river that appears to glow when illuminated by moonlight. Nagatoro developed as a scenic river valley destination during the Edo period. The park was developed to provide public access to riverside autumn foliage, capitalizing on Nagatoro's reputation as a popular autumn leaf viewing destination in the Kanto region.

The park's significance lies in its seasonal maple tree displays creating vibrant autumn colors typically peaking in mid-November to early December. The park contains hundreds of maple trees planted along the riverbank and grounds, creating layers of red, orange, and yellow foliage. The Arakawa River flows through Nagatoro creating dramatic rock formations and rapids, with autumn foliage reflected in water. During peak autumn season, evening illumination events highlight colored leaves with artificial lighting, creating night viewing opportunities.

Visitors walk paths through the park observing maple trees in autumn color. The riverside location provides views combining foliage, flowing water, and rock formations. Benches and rest areas allow viewing and photography. During illumination periods, evening visits provide lit trees creating warm-toned landscapes. The park becomes crowded during peak foliage weekends, particularly during illumination events. Photography captures foliage colors, river scenes, and illuminated night views.

Tsukinoishi Momiji Park is in Nagatoro Town, accessible from Nagatoro Station on the Chichibu Railway Chichibu Main Line, approximately 5 to 10 minutes walking along the river. From central Tokyo, take the Seibu Chichibu Line from Ikebukuro Station to Seibu-Chichibu Station (approximately 80 minutes by limited express), then transfer to Chichibu Railway to Nagatoro Station (additional 20 minutes). From JR Kumagaya Station, take Chichibu Railway directly to Nagatoro.
