Urasoe Castle Ruins, located in the city of Urasoe on Okinawa Island, are steeped in the rich history of the Ryukyu Kingdom. This ancient site was once the residence of several Ryukyuan kings before the capital was moved to Shuri Castle. Today, the ruins offer a glimpse into the grandeur of past civilizations and the strategic significance of this location.

Perched on a limestone hill overlooking the East China Sea, Urasoe Castle Ruins are notable for their impressive stone walls and structures, which, despite their age, still convey the might and ingenuity of the Ryukyuan people. As you explore the site, you can see remnants of the castle's main hall and several sacred areas where rituals and ceremonies would have been performed to honor the gods and ancestors.

Visitors to Urasoe Castle Ruins are treated not only to a history lesson but also to spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding city and coastline. The climb to the top of the hill, where the main ruins are located, is a journey through lush greenery and the whispers of history that echo through the corridors of time.

These Okinawan castle ruins offer stunning views and a glimpse into history 🏰🌳. Explore the remains of this 14th-century fortress, learn about its significance, and enjoy the scenic surroundings. Here you also see Hacksaw Ridge. This WWII battlefield is where Desmond Doss, a conscientious objector, saved hundreds of lives 🏥🌟. The museum and memorials provide a poignant look at his bravery. A must-visit for history buffs and those interested in inspiring stories.
A nice place to visit to learn about the history of the castle ruins and hacksaw ridge. Some good views and some nice ancient architecture.
After watching the movie "Hacksaw Ridge," visiting the actual site can be very impactful. It's hard to imagine how the U.S. forces managed to attack from the beach and the sheer number of casualties on this land. Here, you can also see the tunnels left by the Japanese forces. As for the ruins of the city, most of it was also destroyed during the war.
Historical site of Okinawa war. Actual site of hacksaw ridge. Free to visit, nearest metro station Urasoe Maeda. Walk toward police station, turn left to car park and walk upwards. Alternative alight at last station and take taxi, cost around 800
