Yoshimizu Shrine is a captivating site tucked away in the scenic mountains of Yoshino. Originally built as a residence in the 12th century, it was later transformed into a shrine, making it a unique blend of historical residence and spiritual site. This shrine is deeply intertwined with Japanese history, especially known for its connections to the famous warlord Minamoto no Yoshitsune and the poet-monk Saigyo, both pivotal figures in medieval Japan.

Set amidst the stunning beauty of Mount Yoshino, known for its spectacular cherry blossoms, Yoshimizu Shrine offers breathtaking views that have inspired poets and artists for centuries. The shrine itself houses a collection of artifacts related to its historical figures, including personal belongings and letters, which offer a glimpse into the tumultuous and poetic past of Japan.

Visiting Yoshimizu Shrine is like stepping into a living history book where the tales of samurai and monks come to life against a backdrop of natural beauty. The tranquil atmosphere and rich cultural heritage make it a must-visit for anyone interested in the spiritual and historical journey of Japan.

A must-visit in South Nara🌸🦌 There’s a beautiful hiking way around Mt Yoshino⛰️Yoshimizu shrine⛩️ was where Emperor Go-Daigo stayed (南朝皇居) during his fight with North Court in 14th Century; played an important role in Japanese history🇯🇵 The Study Room (¥600-$4.3) holds historical position, even has Calligraphies from Ikkyu-san✍️Surprisingly saw writings of “勾践与范蠡” at front of gate⛩️ perhaps a suitable hint for a similar historical context📖in East Asian History🌞

Yoshimizu Shrine is an Unesco hetitage site to an emperor and samurai, also a popular place for cherry blossom viewing and offers some great, unobstructed views of Yoshino's cherry tree covered mountain slopes.

Nice experience, nothing special. Probably the best time of the year would be the Sakura blooming and fall. I suggest going specifically there to get one of the best stamps you can get (it costs 600 Yen) and if you are a fan of Tekken!

UNESCO world heritage site, with history over 1000 years of emperors, warlords, samurai, and pilgrims visiting. Apparently an amazing cherry blossom spot, as there is over 30,000 yoshino cherry blossom trees are planted with a great view from this temple. It makes sense warlords hundreds of years ago would do hanami up here. Overall recommended for the legendary history.
