Gosho Aoyama Manga Factory

The Gosho Aoyama Manga Factory is a museum dedicated to the works of renowned manga artist Gosho Aoyama, creator of the internationally acclaimed detective series Detective Conan (known as Case Closed in North America). Located in Hokuei, Tottori Prefecture, the facility opened in March 2007 in Aoyama's hometown, celebrating his contribution to Japanese manga culture and providing fans worldwide with an immersive experience into his creative world.

The museum stands as a significant cultural landmark showcasing the evolution of one of Japan's most successful manga series, which has been serialized since 1994 and has sold over 250 million copies globally. Visitors can explore Aoyama's artistic journey from his childhood through original manuscripts, sketches, and detailed exhibits explaining his creative process. The factory features life-sized recreations of iconic locations from Detective Conan, including Professor Agasa's laboratory and the Mouri Detective Agency, allowing fans to step directly into scenes from the manga.

Interactive experiences form the core of the visitor journey. Guests can solve mysteries through detective-themed puzzle games scattered throughout the museum, view exclusive anime footage and special exhibitions, and examine Aoyama's workspace reproduction. The facility also houses a museum shop offering exclusive Detective Conan merchandise unavailable elsewhere, and a café serving themed food and beverages. Photography is permitted in most areas, making it popular among collectors and social media enthusiasts.

The museum is accessible via JR Yura Station on the San'in Main Line, approximately 18 minutes by train from Tottori Station. From Yura Station, the museum is a 20-minute walk or a short taxi ride. Alternatively, visitors can take the Hokuei Town Loop Bus which stops directly at the facility. Admission costs ¥700 for adults and ¥500 for junior high and high school students, while elementary students pay ¥300 and children under elementary age enter free. The museum provides English signage and audio guides, though most detailed information is in Japanese.
