What other travelers are saying about Kashi-no-Ichi Fish Market
Japan has many fish markets. This one in Shimizu is one of them. Fortunately, either the stores or the restaurants’ prices are still reasonable. The seafood looks very fresh. The restaurant we tried is excellent. I love watching the fishing ships behind the market, too. I will come back again next time when I come to Shimizu.
The market itself is closed for renovation, but next to it has 2 buildings that offer a lot of kaizendon restaurants - we tried the one on the second level directly in front of the stairs and is really impressed with the food, especially the freshness and how thick each slice of the tuna sashimi is. First time trying the fried tuna and really enjoyed it - it has the texture of karaage but lighter and crisp batter with a hint of lemon and doesn’t feel greasy at all.
Relatively small fish market for a small town. You can find good variety of fresh seafood. Good to try some freshly open oysters, cost ¥300-700 each depending on the size. As a tourist, I can’t buy fresh fish. I bough a T-shirt instead.
