One of my favourite Temples in Kyoto so far! My research told me that you need to pay an entrance fee but it was somehow completely for free! Super shady so it wasn’t too hot but the most important thing - no tourists at all! Although there was some construction work going on, it was so quiet and you could at last have some peace and enjoy the experience. By the way it was also really beautiful! Really worth a visit 🙏🏼
Pretty free entry shrine with some food stalls and decent amount of shops. Popular with Japanese schools on weekdays but it’s still not as crowded as places like Fushimi Inari.
Note : there is an expensive plum blossom garden open next to the shrine. You can see a few blossoms for free but the main stuff requires entry (3000 yen !!) It’s beautiful, and I paid because I had come especially, but honestly it’s rare to see something so overpriced in Japan so think about if it is worth it for you. I would have considered free plum blossom spots if I had known.
Visited Kitano Tenmangu Shrine and it was a really peaceful and beautiful place. The atmosphere is calm, perfect for relaxing and taking a break from the busy city. The shrine itself has impressive traditional architecture and the surroundings are well maintained.
There was no long wait to enter, and everything was easy to access. It’s a great spot especially if you want to experience a more quiet and authentic side of Kyoto. Highly recommended for both tourists and locals!
It is free of charge, unlike other shrines/ temples in Kyoto that require an admission fee. However, it is a beautiful place that is comparable to other places. The building is pretty, and the garden is well managed. Especially near the main entrance surrounded by pine trees is really beautiful. Since this place is a residential area, it is better not to make too much noise.
Beautiful free to visit temple nearby Kinkakuji. The white lanterns combined with the traditional buildings are a sight to behold. I was in luck to witness a mini monkey circus street show there and it was pretty cool. A nice place to just slow down and enjoy the architecture and scenary.
