What other travelers are saying about Oriental Bazaar
This is an excellent place to buy quality products for reasonable prices. We searched high and low in many stores in the Shibuya district for a nice Sake set and didn't find anything that looked authentic or was reasonably priced. This store had a number of Sake sets and the only problem we had was deciding on which one! This store is just what you want if you're looking for quality gifts/ souvenirs at reasonable prices.
The store is easy to reach by train. The nearest stations are:
Harajuku Station (JR Yamanote Line) – about a 5-minute walk
Omotesando Station (Tokyo Metro Ginza, Chiyoda, Hanzomon Lines) – about a 3-minute walk
No, but it accepts major credit cards and Japanese yen for payment. There are also ATMs nearby for currency exchange.
Yes, the store is known for its fair pricing, unlike many tourist shops that overcharge. Whether you’re buying a kimono, tea set, or antique, you can expect good value from high-quality products.
Yes, besides antiques, the store also sells modern Japanese souvenirs such as keychains, postcards, folding fans, and T-shirts with traditional prints, making it a great place for all types of gifts.
I first visited Oriental Bazaar in the 1990s, when its big red-and-green building stood right on Omotesandō — even John Lennon was said to shop here. That building is gone, but the shop lives on just off the avenue.
From Harajuku Station, walk down Omotesandō, pass GYRE (with the MoMA Store, HAY, etc.), then turn right at the Chanel corner — just before Dior. A short way down the lane on the left is the new Oriental Bazaar: smaller than before, but still one of Tokyo’s true classics.
Despite the odd name, our favorite souvenir store in Tokyo. You will find here high quality items at reasonable prices.
Attention:
The store is closed on wednesdays and thursdays and has recently changed its location (not far away from old address, google maps is updated)
If you can make just one stop for souvenirs , let it be this. We had to buy a suitcase from Muji after shopping here!! Beautiful ceramic ware and sake sets, assorted unique Japanese artifacts - felt like buying the whole store! Some of the things we bought - a beautiful tea set, a couple of coffee mugs that are now our favorites, a bonsai plant, jewellery pouches and beautiful bag fabrics!
Hidden gem of an authentic japanese souvenir shop, can really get anything you need here for souvenirs. Great prices and lovely staff, helped me looked for a tea set to bring back home and how to pack it.
They have kimonos, magnets, t-shirts, shot gasses, chopsticks. Anything you need to bring back home as gifts.
