What makes Umi Jigoku special?

Its cobalt blue water looks like the sea and reaches about 98 degrees Celsius. The grounds also hold a traditional Japanese garden and a greenhouse growing what the operator describes as the largest demon lotus in Japan.

What can I try at Kamado Jigoku?

Besides the mud pools and steam vents, Kamado Jigoku has a drinking onsen where you can taste the mineral-rich water. It also sells local treats such as hell-steamed pudding and soft serve ice cream, which are not part of the tour inclusions.

How does the Jigoku Mushi cooking work?

At a local restaurant specializing in Jigoku Mushi, you cook your own meal using natural steam from the hot springs, a method that keeps the flavor and nutrients of the ingredients. You pay for the food separately at the restaurant.

How do we get between the sights?

The group takes a bus from Beppu Station to Umi Jigoku, and you pay your own fare. From there everything is on foot, walking to Kamado Jigoku, through the Kannawa district and on to the restaurant.

Excellent tour of Beppu's hells

It was great. Out guide, Tomiko (spelling?) was knowledgeable and charming. She went out of her way to show us around Beppu and introduced us to a monk who sang us songs.

Excellent Beppu afternoon tour!

We had a great time seeing some of the highlights of Beppu. Our guide Milly was very friendly and knowledgeable, and really made it an enjoyable tour! Bus fare and entry to attractions was included so all we had to do was explore, take photos and eat snacks. Thanks Milly!
