What does hanami mean?

Hanami means flower viewing. It is the Japanese tradition of gathering under blooming cherry trees to eat, drink, and enjoy the season together.

Where does the picnic food come from?

Your host takes you to a depachika, a basement food hall in a Hiroshima department store, and helps you choose a bento that looks as good as it tastes. The picnic also includes a shared sushi platter, traditional Japanese sweets, and 2 canned beers or soft drinks.

Which places might the walk cover?

The sample route visits Shukkei-en Garden, the Kyobashi River, and Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, then ends with the picnic in Hijiyama Park. Your host may adjust it to suit you.

Which costs are not covered?

Attraction tickets and public transport fares are paid separately, as is any food or drink beyond the picnic. Gratuities are optional.
