Join this full-day private tour to explore the history of Osaka. Visit the ancient Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine, the famous Shitennoji Temple, and Osaka Castle. End the day in the nostalgic Shinsekai district. Your guide will share fascinating stories and facts throughout the tour, giving you a deeper look at the city's past.
We’ll start the day at Osakajokoen Station, right next to Osaka Castle Park. Your guide will meet you here and give a quick overview of the day’s plan.
Our first stop is Sumiyoshi Taisha, a shrine with over 1,800 years of history. It’s one of the oldest Shinto shrines in Japan and features a unique architectural style not influenced by Chinese designs. Walk across the iconic arched Sorihashi Bridge, a perfect spot for photos, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings steeped in tradition.
Next, we’ll visit Shitennoji, Japan’s first official Buddhist temple, built in 593 by Prince Shotoku. It’s a symbol of Buddhism’s arrival in Japan. The temple grounds are full of interesting details, like the five-story pagoda and the turtle-filled pond, which is said to bring good fortune.
We’ll then head to Osaka Castle, a must-see historical landmark. Originally built in the late 1500s by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the castle played a key role in uniting Japan. Climb to the top for amazing views of the city, and explore the museum inside to learn about its dramatic history, including battles and reconstructions.
Our final stop is Shinsekai, a retro district built in 1912. The area is famous for its nostalgic vibe, inspired by Paris and New York in the early 20th century. Check out Tsutenkaku Tower, the neighborhood’s centerpiece, and soak in the lively atmosphere with its quirky shops and delicious street food options like kushikatsu (fried skewers).
