Shibukawa Skyland Park

Shibukawa Skyland Park is an amusement park located in Shibukawa, Gunma Prefecture, Japan, situated at an elevation of approximately 460 meters on the slopes of Mount Haruna. Established in 1979, the park has operated for over four decades as a family-oriented destination, offering a combination of vintage rides and panoramic views of the surrounding mountainous landscape. Its elevated position provides visitors with sweeping vistas across the Kanto Plain, and on clear days, sightlines extend to Mount Akagi and the distant peaks of the Japanese Alps.

The park gained unexpected international attention in recent years through social media, where it became known for its retro aesthetic and somewhat weathered charm. Unlike modern theme parks, Shibukawa Skyland maintains a nostalgic atmosphere with classic attractions that have remained largely unchanged since its opening. The park features approximately 20 attractions, including a Ferris wheel, go-karts, a small roller coaster, and various children's rides. The Sky Wheel observation wheel stands as one of the main attractions, offering elevated views from its 50-meter height.

Visitors come to experience both the amusement facilities and the scenic natural environment. The park's appeal lies partly in its unhurried, old-fashioned character, which contrasts with the high-tech entertainment venues found in major Japanese cities. General admission to the park is charged separately from ride tickets, with standard entry typically priced around ¥500 to ¥800 for adults. Individual ride tickets can be purchased separately, or visitors may opt for a free-ride pass that provides unlimited access to attractions for approximately ¥2,000 to ¥2,500 depending on age and season.

Access to Shibukawa Skyland Park requires traveling to Shibukawa, located approximately 120 kilometers northwest of Tokyo. From Shibukawa Station on the JR Joetsu Line, visitors can take a bus bound for Ikaho Onsen and disembark at the park entrance, with the journey taking roughly 15 minutes. Those driving can reach the park via the Kanetsu Expressway.
