Ski Jam Katsuyama

Skijam Katsuyama is a major ski resort located in Katsuyama City, Fukui Prefecture, on Japan's main island of Honshu. Established in 1994, the resort was developed to capitalize on the heavy snowfall that blankets the Echizen region each winter, transforming the area into one of western Japan's premier winter sports destinations.

The resort sits within the Hakusan National Park region, offering spectacular views of Mount Hakusan, one of Japan's three sacred mountains. This location provides visitors with access to pristine natural landscapes characterized by dense forests, mountain ridges, and seasonal alpine flora. The area holds cultural significance as part of the ancient Echizen Province, known for its traditional crafts and proximity to historic temples.

Skijam Katsuyama features 12 ski courses across three distinct areas: Illusion, Fantasy, and Panorama zones, with a total skiable area of 196 hectares. The resort caters to all skill levels with beginner-friendly slopes comprising 30% of the terrain, intermediate runs making up 50%, and advanced courses covering 20%. The longest run extends 5.2 kilometers. Beyond skiing and snowboarding, visitors can enjoy snowshoeing, sledding, and relaxing at the resort's hot spring facility.

Access to Skijam Katsuyama requires traveling to Katsuyama Station on the Echizen Railway, approximately one hour from Fukui Station. Free shuttle buses operate between Katsuyama Station and the resort during ski season, with the journey taking 20 minutes. By car, the resort is located along Route 157, roughly 30 minutes from the Fukui IC on the Hokuriku Expressway.

Daily lift tickets cost 4,400 yen for adults and 3,300 yen for children during regular season, with reduced rates for half-day passes and multi-day packages. Equipment rental is available on-site, with full ski or snowboard sets starting at 3,500 yen per day. The resort opens at 8:30 AM and closes at 4:30 PM on weekdays, extending to 5:00 PM on weekends and holidays.
