도요토미 히데요시 동생이 축성한 성으로 축성 보존상태가 좋아서 역사적 가치가 높음. 도요토미 정권하에서 은광.세금 등 경제부분을 담당했던 인물로서 임진왜란에 반대했었던 인물이였음.
이후 도쿠가와 가문이 통치했던 지역으로 지금은 주위에 산책로가 조성되어있고, 조용하고 공기도 맑고 좋음. 난카이선 와카야마역에서 걸어서 15분정도 거리임.
Wakayama Castle is open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM (last entry at 5:00 PM). Adult admission is 410 yen, while children under 18 enter free. The castle is closed from December 29-31 for New Year holidays.
