The Yamanakako Oshino Fujiyoshida Line is a scenic bus route operated by Fujikyu Bus that connects the northern Fuji Five Lakes region, providing access to some of Mount Fuji's most iconic viewpoints and attractions. Established as part of the regional transportation network serving the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park area, this route has become essential for tourists exploring the culturally significant northern foothills of Japan's sacred mountain.

The line passes through Lake Yamanaka (Yamanakako), the largest of the Fuji Five Lakes and situated at 980 meters elevation, making it the highest lake in the region. The route continues through Oshino Village, famous for its eight sacred springs (Oshino Hakkai) fed by Mount Fuji's snowmelt, which have been revered since the Heian period (794-1185) as purification sites for Fuji pilgrims. The final destination, Fujiyoshida, serves as the traditional starting point for climbing Mount Fuji via the Yoshida Trail and houses the historic Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha Shrine.

Passengers experience unobstructed views of Mount Fuji's north face while traveling between traditional villages, pristine lakes, and cultural sites. Key stops include Yamanakako Asahigaoka for lakeside views, Oshino Hakkai for the sacred springs, and Fujiyoshida Station for shrine visits and trail access. The journey covers approximately 25 kilometers and takes 45-60 minutes depending on traffic and stops.

Spring brings cherry blossoms around Lake Yamanaka and clear mountain visibility. Summer offers the climbing season (July-September) and festival activities, though Mount Fuji may be obscured by clouds. Autumn provides spectacular foliage and excellent photographic conditions with crisp air. Winter delivers snow-covered landscapes and the highest probability of clear Fuji views, though some mountain facilities close.

The bus operates every 30-60 minutes depending on season, with reduced frequency in winter months. A single journey costs ¥520-680 depending on distance, while a Fuji Five Lakes Free Pass (¥1,500 for two days) provides unlimited travel on participating routes. Access the line from JR Otsuki Station via connecting buses, or from Kawaguchiko Station on the Fujikyu Railway Line from Shinjuku. No advance reservations are required for regular services, though seats are not guaranteed during peak seasons.
